History of Loose Park

Loose Park was originally part of a 640-acre land grant from the U.S. government to John McCoy in 1822. The land was eventually acquired by Jacob Loose, a prominent Kansas City businessman and philanthropist, who donated it to the city in 1927 as a public park.

Today, the park is home to a number of historic landmarks, including the Battle of Westport Museum and Visitor Center, which commemorates the site of a significant Civil War battle that took place nearby. The park also features a beautiful rose garden, as well as numerous walking trails and picnic areas.
